Seraj Salon is a men’s hair salon concept inspired by the calming spirit and symbolism of Chinese culture. The project is developed as three different spatial versions; Mantis, Monk, and Dragon, each representing a unique philosophical and emotional experience. This presentation focuses on the Mantis Version, where the mantis is used as a spiritual symbol of calm awareness, balance, and inner strength.
The design aims to create a comfortable, soothing, and meditative environment, blending natural materials, soft lighting, and symbolic elements. The space is divided into three main functional zones, each designed to evoke a specific emotional state.
Reception | “The Clean Area"
The reception zone introduces the user to the serene atmosphere of the salon.
The counter desk combines gray travertine stone and green glass, symbolizing nature and balance. A red-leaf plant behind the counter adds a subtle Chinese reference and visual contrast, while a small golden mantis sculpture serves as the spiritual icon of the space.
White natural rough paint finishes the walls, while abundant natural light enhances the clean, calming atmosphere. A reception sofa opposite the counter, paired with indoor planting, reinforces the connection with nature.
Shaving Area | “The Active / Dirty Area"
This zone is designed to feel expressive yet balanced.
The mirror design is inspired by traditional Chinese scrolls, reinterpreted as hanging mirrors that unfold visually in the space. The concept also references the iconic scene from Kung Fu Panda, where Po opens the Dragon Warrior Scroll and finds a mirror reflecting himself, symbolizing self-realization.
The quote “There is no secret ingredient. It’s just you.” is integrated into the wall design as a philosophical message.
A sloped ceiling, inspired by Chinese roofs and traditional architecture, conceals warm indirect lighting, creating a cozy and enveloping atmosphere around the shaving stations.
Hair Washing & Body Care | “The Calming Area”
This zone represents the deepest level of relaxation within the salon.
A curved ceiling with hidden warm lighting enhances comfort and softness.
Natural elements are introduced through a small bonsai tree, green landscaping, and natural stones.
A mini waterfall adds movement and sound, reinforcing a meditative and spa-like experience and the gentle sound of flowing water creates a calming sensory layer.
A golden mantis sculpture is placed within the water feature, symbolizing mindfulness and continuity of the concept.
